In Newburyport Massachusetts, designer Michael Updike sculpts these unique pieces of serving-ware in clay, than with the help of artisans they hand-work an exact copy, from which a single metal mold is made, using a basic tool of mother nature (Sand) molten aluminum is poured into the mold mixing and creating the fine piece you see before you (On the underside of the Mariposa piece, you might spot a tiny mark of a channel used and little marks of sand imbedded in your piece, reminding you that these are handmade works of usable art.
The design of Mariposa is essential to a modern vision of life bringing the outdoors, and simple lines of the world around you to your table and surroundings.
